Postpartum Support Group

Postpartum Support Group: Embracing Joy in the Journey of Black Parenthood

Each session offers an opportunity to connect with other Black parents to share your experiences, fears, and successes. We will have bonding activities, breastfeeding support, and infant development education all in a nurturing space for culturally rooted mental and emotional wellness using mindfulness, trauma-informed care, art, music, dance, and storytelling.

Facilitated by Fareedat Ajibade MD, IBCLC & Nithya Ravindran, DO

All sessions will be held once a month at 2-3PM on Thursdays via Zoom. The first session is coming up on Thursday, November 20th, registration for this cohort closes on November 13th to allow time to mail you materials for the first session.

Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy

As a BMHCE participant, you will receive FREE sessions from a licensed physical therapist, Dr. Sydney Curls. This care option is available to all BMHCE clients that are either pregnant or within the first 6 months of their postpartum journey. Your allotted sessions can be split between your prenatal and postpartum period.

This is a highly anticipated program. Please be aware there is a waitlist for interested participants. Dr. Curls will contact you when a slot is available.

Mental Health Support

BMHCE works in partnership with Southern California Counseling Center to provide mental health support to our participants. The support options available are

  • 1-on-1 counseling

  • couples counseling, and

  • family counseling.

You are eligible for up to 12 sessions both in-person and virtually.

Group Prenatal Care

BMHCE partners with local birthworkers to provide prenatal and postpartum midwifery care to Black Birthing persons in LA County. As a participant of this program, you are given access to 1-2 hour group sessions with your prenatal provider. You are not required to birth with any of the providers. This care can complement your current birth plan, including hospital-based and midwifery-based care.
